Melanie Loura Taylor (formerly Roden) – 1974 – 2018
From September 2017, Melanie represented the Debt Resolution Forum (DRF) as its External Affairs Director, (taking over from Andrew Smith) until her untimely death last Friday 5th October. She had left her DEMSA role several months earlier.
She met with me and one of Philip Hammond’s Special Advisors last year to discuss various important matters regarding financial capability and issues that affect Money Advice Service (MAS). Meetings were held with representatives of H M Treasury on matters that the FCA will hopefully be looking into and be more aware of in our sector.
Melanie had appointments scheduled with MAS, FOS and FCA on behalf of DRF for the back end of October, which hopefully can be resurrected at some future date, as the issues relating to the debt resolution sector and claims management sector into financial products mis-selling still need to be addressed.
Melanie will always be remembered by the debt resolution industry, even before she won the accolade of “Debt Adviser of the Year” in 2013, presented to her at the DRF Forum’s Annual Conference. Her goal and passion was to help financially distressed consumers by ensuring proper advice and tools were provided to them. She was dynamic, witty, full of zest and zeal always striving to help those in financial distress and push regulators to get their act together and help to further that aim.
She will be a huge loss to the industry and missed by everyone whose path she crossed.
Our thoughts are with her children, Georgia, Tristan and the rest of her family. Taken far too soon. Remembered always. Rest in Peace Melanie.
